“ Now the life insurance is within the reach of everyone.”  Introducing PRADHAN MANTRI JEEVAN JYOTI BIMA YOJNA. Life insuarance worth Rs.2 lacs at just Rs.330/= per annum .
This is the advertisement  given in daily HT and DNA dated  07-05-2015.
Another advertisement  in daily DNA of 07-05-2015- page 5 informs people :-
 “  From Jan-Pradhan Dhan to Jan Suraksha’ :- Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna  and  Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna.
First bima yojna  assures accident insurance worth Rs.2Lacs @ 12 rupees per annum for all bank holders whose age is between 18-70 years.
Second one is Life insurance worth Rs. 2 Lacs @ 330 rupees per annum for all bank account holders whose age is between 18-50 years.
=============================================================================
Hats off to PM Nerender Modi for bringing such social security measures.  However  the  both the yojnas do not inspire confidence in the people above 70 years in accident yojna and above 50 years in Life insurance yojna.  Does the Govt. feels that  former do not become victims  of accidents and later do not  live beyond 50. What about those who are aged above 50-70 years as on 31 May 2015. They do not become entitled to avail this social security measures even though they have saving bank accounts in the bank. Why this discrimination is being made to different set of citizens of different age is unthinkable in the country which boasts of equality in all respects to its citizens.
This amounts to gross injustice. Expansion and growth also brings surge in motorization resulting the road accidents, hit and run cases, road rage fatalities, accidental deaths which do not discriminate age. Anyone can be a victim . Why is the insurance age kept limited? It should have been extended to every citizen of  any age, everyone who has  a saving account in the bank. Selective age related schemes defy the logic of social security.

(Following info taken from http://ncrb.gov.in/CD-ADSI-2012/ADSI2012.pdf)
A total 3,94,982 accidental deaths were reported in the country during the year 2012.
A total of 6,99,804 cases of ‘un-natural accidents’ which caused 3,72,022 deaths and
rendered 5,07,329 people injured were reported in country during 2012.
Ratio of male fatality to female fatality due to un-natural accidents was — 77.6 : 22.4 .

It is therefore imperative that the GOI  should think over again on the social security measure. Senior citizens of all ages including above 50  who have  saving bank accounts should be included in this scheme if GOI is really interested in the welfare of the its citizens./TK
